bra•vu•ra (br vyeor’ ;brä veo’ rä) – a daring display of brilliant skill
Established in 1964, Bravura is an award-winning literary journal that features the prose, poetry, and visual art of current Palomar College students, alumni, and local high school students.The goal of Bravura is to celebrate Palomar College’s diverse creative community. We publish of original work a variety of literary genres, including creative non-fiction, poetry, short fiction, song lyrics, and drama/screenplays. As an interdisciplinary journal we also publish artistic expression from a variety of fields, including, but not limited to, photography, drawing and painting, illustration, digital art, comics, graphic design, and mixed media art. We also publish images of three dimensional arts including sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, metalworking, woodworking, and fashion design. In sum – any printable sort of creative expression will be considered for publication!
Bravura is published annually in May. The journal is produced by the student editors in ENGLISH 137 under the guidance of faculty advisors Professor Clare Rolens, PhD. and Professor Stacey M. Trujillo,PhD.

Bravura’s Annual Cover Design Contest
We want YOU to design the cover of the this year's edition of Bravura, Palomar College’s award-winning annual literary journal! Your design must include “Bravura” and “2023” and be in Lanscape orientation.
You may submit up to 5 seperate cover designs.
Prose Submissions
We welcome short fiction and creative non-fiction. Your submission should be no more than 5,000 words and proofread. If you want to submit a section of a longer work, make sure that your submission stands on its own (you may include a brief contextualizing paragraph that acknowledges its role within a longer text).
You may submit up to 5 individual prose pieces for consideration.
Poetry Submissions
Poetry in all forms and lengths is welcome. We also accept work that is meant to be performed, such as spoken word or song lyrics, etc.
You may submit up to 5 individual poems for consideration.
Visual Arts Submissions
Photography, paintings, graphic design, illustrations, mixed media, comics etc. Fashion design, architecture, woodworking, metalworking, basically anything creative that you have made, designed, or both, are also encouraged. Since it is a print journal, we need a high quality image or images of your project.
You may submit up to 10 individual images for consideration.

- Students currently enrolled at Palomar College
- Palomar Alumni/ Former Students
- San Diego County High School Students
